THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS: Spins & Turns
Focusing on ATS® spins and turns, we will break down, drill and refine technique. Get ready to find your happy place within Calibrated Spins and drama within your slow turns, such as, Reverse Turn, Corkscrew and Propeller Turns, Wrap Around Turn, Sahra Turn, Barrel Turn. Must have good technique in the Fundamentals material - Taxeem, Hand Floreo, Arm Undulations, Bodywave, Torso Rotation, and Circle Step; Egyptian, Arabic, Pivot Bump/Choo Choo, and Shimmy.

1-3pm
CLASSIC TO MODERN: THE LOOK
ATS® costume, makeup & hair! We often get asked about the how’s, what’s and why’s of our look. Would you like to know? Yes, you would. Learn how to achieve our classic look – how to tie and decorate a head wrap, makeup and costuming. Learn how to achieve our modern look – stylish and embellished up-dos, makeup and costuming. And consider how all these elements collaborate with the dance. There is a great advantage to having both of us teach this workshop because we have different faces, hair and body types, so there will be something for everyone!
You don’t have to bring everything listed below, but choose what you’d like to bring and participate in any way you’d like. Please come with base makeup (foundation, powder, primer, etc.) on, to save time. A portable free-standing mirror comes in very handy.
For head wraps: bring a length of 3+ yards (2.75 meters) of cotton fabric (black is most common), a decorative scarf or two, a fabric flower or two, jewels to pin and lots of hat and/or corsage pins!
For hair: long hair – bring brush/comb, hair ties, hair sticks/chopsticks, flower clips, scarves, sturdy hair pins/clips, and styling product (if desired). Short hair – bring scarves, flowers and/or decorative clips, hair bands and bobby pins.
For makeup: bring brushes shadows, blush, eyeliner (liquid and pencil), fake lashes, eyelash glue, bindis, and lipstick/liner.
For costuming: bring a skirt or two, pantaloons, choli, coin bra (if you have one), triangle shawls (various colors, fringes, materials, etc.), tassel/coin belt (if you have one), and any other materials to layer and decorate with.

***after this costuming workshop, we can frolic about campus for photos***

SUNDAY
10-noon
THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS:
Your Arms
Arm placement is a very important part of ATS®. They provide framing for our head and body, they send cues to our fellow dancers and they express much of the energy of the dance. We will examine arm placement, in depth, for slow and fast movements with some fun exercises! We will also offer individual tweaks and corrections for each of you to work on. This workshop is good for all levels, but is helpful to have an understanding beyond the Fundamentals content.

1-3pm
PAINTING THE MUSIC
Any good art piece can have many elements to intrigue and direct the viewer’s eyes – contrasts, content, mood, lines, shapes, color, and movement. This is also reflected in dance. We want the audience to “see” the music and be directed by our motions to understand the music. In order to do this, we must know the music so that we can react to it using ATS® improv. We will choose a couple of songs to learn and present and work in these creative elements. This is an intermediate level workshop aimed at those who are at or nearing performance level.
